Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:20 PM

Good morning! It's a typical Wednesday here. I'll be takin' the kids to school. Michelle will be heading down to oncology. Hopefully the infusion will be as much of a non-event as last week's was. I'll be working from home and hopefully get my new GPU simulation model running today. 5:46am

Dropped the kids off at their schools. Topped off and using both wood stoves. Michelle is on her way to oncology. Just sitting in that chair all day drives her crazy. She's armed with a good book, a Nintendo, DS, and streaming audio on her cell phone. I'm VPN'd into the office for the rest of the day. For the next six hours it's just me and da' kittehs. 9:06am

Posting from Milford's Donut Fresh Express using Michelle's Hackintosh netbook. I just wanted to make that if she brought it someplace with public WiFi, it would have little issue connecting. Perhaps tonight I'll bring it to oncology when I pick her up and see if she could "surf the InterWebs" while she's sitting through a boring chemo session. 2:08pm

I went to pick Michelle up from Nashua. She was done with her treatments almost two hours earlier than last week which made her feel better. 5:01pm

In between beating my head against the work keyboard because of compiler issues, I tried to install both ChromeOS and EasyPeasy on my MacBook. ChromeOS wouldn't run under VirtualBox but EasyPeasy (an OS distribution initially aimed at the Asus Eee PC netbooks, hence the goofy name) did run. Picture to follow. 7:05pm

Been a dork tonight, researching OS's for netbooks besides Win7. I still think Snow Leopard was a great choice for $30 on Michelle's netbook. It's been something I've tinkered with before many years ago... resuscitating old "obsolete" hardware with lightweight OS's. I think in today's economy, extending the life of old hardware has value. 8:07pm

I am such a married man. I just washed my hands with "Yuletide Pear Vanilla hand soap" instead of... say... Gojo. ;-P Good night all! 9:18pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Centro and Treo Sync with Mac - The Missing Sync for Palm OS
Comment: Purchased and installed this today on my MacBook. It was one of the last barriers to upgrading to Snow Leopard, since Palm Desktop does NOT work in Snow Leopard. So far it looks far better (read: more Mac'ish) than Palm's OEM "Desktop" software and it integrates with existing Mac apps like iCal and Address Book.

You can 'aspire', but don't you dare achieve
Comment: An excellent article on class warfare rhetoric. While written from a UK point of view, it easily translates to US politics as well.
Excerpt: The people that Gordon Brown calls 'privileged' are just those who were once aspirational
