Dad Heads Home

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! It was a bit sad for all of us as we needed to say goodbye to dad. I dropped Abby off at school. Claire is delayed today due to a field trip. I then returned home for another hour to have a bit more time with dad. Once he left to take the boys to school, I head down to Boxborough. 8:30am

I offered up the Luminous Mysteries on the 1st part of my commute and then just listened to EWTN the rest of the way down. After days of Seattle-like weather, New England is having beautiful spring weather: cool, sunshine, and everything's greened up from the recent rains. 9:30am

As I said, Claire has a field trip to see a play today. Michelle has a dentist appointment today. She's also going to try to take a fitness class at the Nashua Golds Gym. We've not really utilized them before, although our memberships allow cross-overs like that. 10:05am

In other news: Abby is on Facebook. She's got a lot of rules to keep in mind, but we let her go a bit crazy last night, staying online until 10:30pm. This weekend I'll set Michelle up on it as well so that she can keep in touch with the many people offering their thoughts, prayers, love, and support. She prefers old fashioned phone calls and such, but since folks like to connect with Facebook, she's willing to go there. 10:07am

Obama mouthpiece David Axelrod starts to gloat about falling gas prices. The Twitter universe responds. And with its usual snarkasm. 10:19am

Went with two guys from the driver team for lunch at DiCapri. Now trying to split my brain between work and an All Hands Meeting. 1:34pm

It dawned on me today: this is the first Mother's Day weekend I can't call my mom. I can only pray for the repose of her soul. «sniff» Michelle and I miss you mom! Pray for us! 3:40pm

It only takes one thread to keep a bird from flying. It only takes one small thing that we won't surrender to keep us from holiness. I'm paraphrasing Fr. Larry Richards. 4:56pm

Infinite complexity in 4096 Bytes - winner of the PC 4kB intro competition. (related story/video link) Amazing to see what a dedicated software engineer can do in so little space. Awesome video of the results. 5:02pm

Smooth, sunny drive home. I caught up with dad as he was traveling home. Then listened to my CD of the month the rest of the way. 6:35pm

Caught up with my maternal grandmother tonight. She's my last living mother. Then did some investigations of Tim's laptop. I suspect it's dying... It won't charge the battery and even with the battery removed, it won't take power from the cord or the docking station. I suspect the power regulator is shot. Maybe we'll just buy Tim an inexpensive netbook. 8:01pm

Got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. Michelle and I are pretty wiped out and are following their example. I'm glad I don't have to pick up Claire from Subway tonight. 8:45pm

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one's life for one's friends.
