The New Companion

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Good morning! I dropped the girls off at their schools. I stopped by Cafe on the Oval for a quick ‘Irish Benny’ (eggs benedict made with corned beef hash in lieu of ham) for breakfast. On the drive down to Boxborough I listened to a bit of Al Kresta for the first part and caught up with my dad the rest of the way. 9:48am

Hearing my dad getting ready for the drive to the family reunion only makes it more real to me that soon we will be packing up our things as well. Now into debugging... 9:50am

Ah so the new Doctor Who companion has been announced: Jenna-Louise Coleman. For an alien, this Dr. Who fellow seems to have quite an eye for feminine beauty. Does anyone else think she looks like American actress Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, aka Kelly Kapowski in “Saved by the Bell”. 10:09am

Via shaneadams: “Happy 6th Birthday Twitter! It now requires two hands to tell everyone how old you are, unless you're a villain from The Princess Bride.” 10:29am

10 Stubborn Exercise Myths that Won’t Die, Debunked by Science. I'll admit, I still held myth #2. 11:15am

I pray I'm never paralyzed, but if I am, this wheelchair replacement would rock! Hat Tip: @CraigCottingham 12:18am

Got a call from Michelle. The HVAC guys are in doing scheduled routine maintenance. After some initial inspection we opted to get the HVAC blower motor (caked with dirt and dust) cleaned out and a flushing for the tankless hot water heater. 2:09pm

Via Snapdragon: Windows 8 on Snapdragon Processors (via Snapdragon blog) I saw this on my last visit to San Diego. It's a bit surreal to see Windows on a tablet, especially one powered by ARM. 5:25pm

The entire Obama presidency, in one anecdote. Excerpt: “A $38.6 billion loan guarantee program that the Obama administration promised would create or save 65,000 [clean energy] jobs has created just a few thousand jobs two years after it began, government records show.” Do the math on how much money that is per job. Some people complain about petroleum subsidies, and indeed I'm no fan of crony capitalism, but as low margin as that industry is, it does create a bunch of jobs and a lot of our energy. And the government makes huge margins off the taxes on fuel. An average of 47¢ per gallon. 5:58pm

I'll have to ask Claire about this when I get home. “They’re dancing on the lunch tables at Milford High School” 6:05pm

Smooth commute home tonight. I listened to a bit of “My Brother, the Pope” along the drive. It was this month's CD of the month. 7:45pm

Setup Abby's phone so that she can send and receive her personal email on it. Tomorrow I may set her up with a Microsoft Live account, which is all but necessary for this type of phone. Also helped Timothy with his scripting work. This week he's been making web pages by hand with silly stories about our cats. It's his way of learning about HTML. 8:20pm

Michelle made Claire and me bowls of warm chocolate pudding. She's just awesome! I think I'll keep her. «grin» 8:28pm

Got the boys tucked in bed with their prayers. Going to follow in their footsteps. Good night all! 9:25pm

“Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word
and believes in the one who sent me
has eternal life and will not come to condemnation,
but has passed from death to life.”
