42 is the Answer

Good morning! It looks like it'll be another gorgeous day for Michelle and the kids to enjoy some sunshine and the pool before school starts a week from today. And of course Claire has a morning run now with the cross country team. I had a smooth trip into Boxborough, listening to Security Now #314 along the way. It's one of my favorite 'hard core' tech podcasts. They don't do tech market analysis or gadget reviews. They delve deep into technology and how things work and (more importantly) how they might be broken and how to avoid getting burned. 9:12am

I'm working on my desktop for a bit while my laptop does its Linux updates. I love how automated and efficient updates on Linux are. MacOS and Windows do a reasonable job, but distributions like Ubuntu and other mainstream Linux editions really excel at updating and keeping you current. It's not only your operating system that gets fixes but all of your installed apps as well. And rarely does it download the whole app over again but usually it just updates the pieces (the libraries) that need fixing. 9:16am

Sing it with me: Attack... of the killer clothes dryer! (Everything is bad for us!) 10:43am

Been a hectic day fighting with silly things like compilers, environment variables, stale libraries, etc. Bleah! Left work early because I have a 6 o'clock conference call with San Diego. Had a smooth commute home, first catching up with my dad in Michigan, checking with Michelle about whether Hurricane Irene affects our weekend plans, and listening to TWiT #315 the rest of the drive. 5:34pm

It was a long conference call, 2 1/2 hours, but we got through the issues. I was there at the tail end of Michelle putting the boys to bed to help them with their final prayers and talk about the hurricane. 8:30pm

42Humor: Yesterday was Michelle's birthday and I consoled her with this universal consensus between Google search, Microsoft Bing search, and Wolfram Alpha search. 10:01pm

As Michelle and I were unwinding, I saw that her netbook was now charged thanks to its new power supply. I decided to give it its updates while we relaxed with a bit of TV news telling us all about Hurricane Irene. 10:34pm

There's an Edit with Emacs extension for Chrome?! I may have to switch back early. Double checking Firefox for something similar... 10:36pm
