Some Big Apple Announcement?

Posted by Scott at 11:59 PM

Yawn! Good morning! One week until Lent starts. Enjoy some good steaks. ;-] Time for me to stop dawdling and get ready for work. I got a message from my bank that my ATM card of 16 years is about to be deactivated and replaced with a bank debit card. I'm assuming this is a good thing? Any down sides? 6:44am

Left the house a bit on the late side but had a smooth, sunny commute down to Boxborough. I finished my audio book as I was approaching my Rt. 2 exit for the office. As I'd expected, it was a quick read, but informative and good for some perspective on that decade of the 1960's. 9:15am

What are my reps thinking?! Some NH Republicans Push Bill to Abolish Marriage Licenses for All (related link) I'm guessing it's the libertarian wing who thinks the government should just stay out of the marriage business altogether. 10:29am

Re: today's upcoming iPad 2 announcement. Is there a remote chance Apple would ever break out of their “sync to iTunes” model?? 10:43am

See the new Smart Cover Went with a couple of my ol' AMD mobile GPU peeps for lunch. Now monitoring The Apple News™ while I write some custom assembly GPU shaders. While there are some real iPad revelations, I do have to smirk a bit at the time Apple is spending showing off their iPad cases. Oh look, it's magnetic. Oh look, they fold into prisms to become iPad stands. And Oh, they come in a variety of colors. You'd think making a cover was more engineering than making it dual core, or up'ing the graphics throughput, or adding two cameras. 1:36pm

Left work a bit early to catch the Step 'n abs class at Golds. Got a call shortly before I left that RCIA class was going to be cancelled tonight because of a last minute scheduling issue. Perhaps after I rehydrate and have a little dinner, I can browse for a new audio book. 7:09pm

Trying the newly updated SiriusXM Media Player for listening to satellite radio within a browser. On my Mac I usually use Radium but I don't have a similar tool for my office laptop, so I usually just use the XM app on Android when I'm at the office. 7:24pm

Considering ordering these CDs for Lent. I already have several CDs from this company as a part of their ‘CD of the month’ club, but these bundles might be good listening for my commutes during Lent. 7:30pm

Reading What's the point of ‘Boston vs. Silicon Valley’?, discussing the entrepreneurial spirit in the two tech meccas. 8:17pm

Google has updated their Google Profiles feature and I took a few moments to update mine. 8:27pm

Here's an article I didn't expect to see on Ars Technica: “Why I don't care very much about tablets anymore”.
Excerpt: “the tablet isn't really the best gadget that I have for any of the above—at least in terms of the overall experience (cost and convenience aside). For watching video, my TV wins. I prefer to read books and papers on either the Kindle or as dead-tree color printouts and books. Surfing the Web is easier on a computer, especially if you leave a lot of tabs open. I've yet to have a tablet gaming experience that really surpasses a good console or PC game. And so on.” 9:02pm
