Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 10:03 PM

Good morning! At first I was going to tell the boys to keep it down, but then I realized that they are just MarioKart'ing, working as a team of brothers, and yelling at the computer characters driving against them. 7:36am

Good morning! We're back home from Mass & breakfast. Besides the "Ut unum sint" theme, today's Mass also featured a Baptism for a tiny new parishioner. Luckily the boys behaved despite how long the service seemed to them. 11:20am

It's sunny, 67°F, with light breezes and a clear Doppler. Sweet! Wish I had a hammock between two shade trees. 11:53am

Picked up Timothy from a birthday party he was at. Earlier this afternoon Michelle & Claire went to The House by the Side of the Road -- a local garden center. Since their return Michelle has been planting in the yard. There's no holding that woman back! ;-] Uploading my first video to YouTube. Will see how it goes... 3:36pm

At the Milford library with Claire so she can find some new reading. 4:18pm

Having dinner with the family at TGIFridays. Timothy & I are sharing one of their 3 course dinners, as are Abby & Michelle. 6:15pm

Watching the pilot of "The Greatest American Hero" with the family. Dial up the way back machine to March 1981. "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free..." 7:55pm

Spent some free time today reading reviews of Tumblr and Posterous. In some sense it does seem like a Coke vs. Pepsi, Ford vs Chevy type situation at the moment with pros and cons on each side. Still I'm going to start the tinkering with Posterous.com first and see how that goes. 8:57pm

Bookmarks I made today:

BBC: Untidy beds may keep us healthy
Comment: Probably the most counterintuitive news you'll read today...
Excerpt: Research suggests that while an unmade bed may look scruffy it is also unappealing to house dust mites thought to cause asthma and other allergies.

AMD says Fusion CPU and GPU will ship this year
Comment: It's about time! When AMD acquired ATI back in fall of 2006, that was supposed to be the big reason why. Extra points if you realize that the Qualcomm SnapDragon in a lot of high end phones is essentially a "Fusion" chip with a cellular modem.
Excerpt: AMD says Fusion CPU and GPU will ship this year. AMD to deliver Fusion CPU+GPU to OEMs this year and to shops in 2011, still persisting with single-die design

Adobe & Apple: Please Spare Us the Platitudes About “Open”
Comment: Exactly!
Excerpt: One can’t help but laugh that two of the most historically closed companies in technology are now in a proverbial pissing match over which company has embraced openness more.

YouTube: Claire skating
Comment: Nothing fancy. When Claire's Aunt Gina took her ice skating last winter, her aunt was showing her how to skate backwards. Since then Claire has picked up the knack on rollerblades.
