Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:53 PM

Good morning! Back from Mass and breakfast with the family. Claire is doing homework with her laptop. The rest are playing Wii Fit Plus. I'm going to resume work on taxes. I have a bad feeling that this will be another year that I curse the AMT. It so discourages generosity. 9:02am

Took a break from tax prep and cleaned the coils of fridge. Highly recommended because the refrigerator is one of the highest consumers of electricity in the typical home. Michelle and Timothy are at CCD. Claire is getting the knack of Open Office. 10:53am

Stopping my tax prep for today. Things looking good so far. There are complications from the AMD stock I was awarded. Ping'd broker for more supporting documentation so I can wrap things up soon. We want our money back! Mama needs a new minivan! ;-P [Parody of "baby needs a new pair o' shoes"]. 2:12pm

Is there some game on? I mean besides watching Michelle, Claire, and Abby play Wii Fit Plus, which is pretty entertaining... 7:51pm

Geekiest post tonight: I'm writing from a Firefox session running on a dynamically created Ubuntu Linux computer instanced within the Amazon Compute Cloud. Extreme "cloud computing". Yes, I'm watching The Game(tm), but I often watch TV while tinkering with a laptop. 8:56pm

Ah there'd been some local discussion about whether we'd be seeing Clydesdales in tonight's SuperBowl commercials. There they are! (We have some of Anheuser-Busch's Clydesdales in neighboring Merrimack, NH). 9:18pm

All right! A Super Bowl commercial advocating the TDI engine! Woot! 9:28pm

Congrats Saints! And good night... 9:46pm

Ah, saw the ad for the Qualcomm FloTV. (related link) I can only imagine the cost for putting up that ad. 9:51pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Welcome to the Virtual Revolution
Comment: I've been downloading this new BBC mini-series from Usenet. I hope that they bring it here soon. It's been pretty decent so far.
Excerpt: Technology Guardian's Dr Aleks Krotoski turns TV presenter tomorrow night for a new BBC series that examines the impact of the world wide web

RFK, Jr. 15 months ago: Global warming means no snow or cold in DC
Comment: Reminds me of a few years back when we had a light winter (for New England) and folks were telling us global warming would bankrupt our skiing/tourism industry. The following winter we had a record breaker and the ski mountains were practically printing money.
Excerpt: Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who flies around on private planes so as to tell larger numbers of people how they must live their lives in order to save the planet, wrote a column last year on the lack of winter weather in Washington, D.C.
