Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 10:10 PM

Good morning all! It's 20°F and we're expecting a bit of snow this morning. I'll be dropping all the kids off at school and Michelle will head down to oncology. I'll be VPN'd into work from home. Hopin' to get my hair re-buzzed off today. It does make the winter a lot chillier though! Brr! 6:24am

Dropped the kids off. Went and got my hair re-buzzed — nothin' on the sides, faded to 1/4 inch on top. Michelle is at Nashua Oncology. The cleaning women are here. I'm logged into work for the rest of today. 9:31am

Listening to Chicago's WGN radio for the nostalgia. (related link) 10:20am

Went for a late lunch to the Milford Cafe on the Oval. They always have such affordable and great tasting comfort food. Today I had one of their specials of the day, a Turkey Bake. Sort of a Shepherd's Pie but made with cooked turkey, layered with stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, and gravy, with sides of garlic toast and cranberries. Since I was alone this time, I read more Cliff Notes on "Wuthering Heights". 2:20pm

In a strange reversal of fortunes Claire is using my laptop, the other kids are borrowing Michelle's, and I'm typing this on Claire's Ubuntu laptop. Michelle had another successful/uneventful chemo treatment today. Her blood counts are still looking great and no signs of neuropathy. Five phase B treatments down, seven more to go. 7:48pm

While watching some evening news with Michelle, I worked on optimizing how our web site gets synchronized between my laptop and the web host. I was using webDAV protocol, but found scripted FTP to be much faster. ("blah blah blah Scott... whatever you say... blah blah blah") Good night all. 9:10pm

Bookmarks I made today:

Windy - Wikipedia
Comment: 'Twas the number one song the day I was born. Use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_number-one_songs_in_the_United_States to research yours.
Excerpt: "Windy" is a pop music song written by Ruthann Friedman and recorded by The Association. Released in 1967, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in July of that year. Later in 1967, an instrumental ...

Timothy is 7 years old today!
Comment: A happy 7th birthday to my youngest, Timothy. Today Mighty Timbo is extra Mighty Mighty. ☺

Tolerance
Comment: Saw one of these bumper stickers when dropping off the kids. Any bets on whether the driver also supports conscience clauses for health care providers??

IC suppliers for Apple iPad
Comment: Darn! Infineon is supplying the 3G/cellular portion of the iPad. Considering it's still a GSM protocol device and not CDMA, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Microsoft Office Communicator
Comment: I am a Fan! There aren't many Microsoft products that I would be happy to recommend but the recent versions of Communicator just rock in a corporate setting. My teammate, also a work from home guy, can talk with me, see and manipulate my screen, transfer files, etc. When needed, it's like he's there at the desk with me. Huge savings on time and gasoline (or diesel).
Excerpt: Office Communicator is a unified communications application that helps end users [...] using a range of different communication options, including instant messaging (IM), voice, desktop sharing and video.
