Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 09:25 PM

Good morning! It's a brisk 19°F down here in the Souhegan Valley. I'm happy for holiday travelers (including our girls) that the forecasts look pretty sane for the next several days. Hopefully everyone gets where there need to be without major hassles. 7:48am

Dropped all the kidlets off at their schools. Abby left her clarinet in the van and Michael left his bag with his winterwear. Michelle is teaching her 20/20/20 class and I'm VPN'd into the office for the rest of today. 9:24am

It's almost a ritual here. Go outside for some errand. Come back inside and stand by the fire for a minute or two. Yes, I just swung over to Michael's school so he'd have his other clothes. 9:48am

Didn't realize but sometime when I wasn't looking, Sprint gave us unlimited mobile to mobile, to any domestic mobile number, even if they're not on Sprint. Unlimited data, unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited texts. I'm liking this plan more and more. And for 3G in my neighborhood, it's just them or Verizon. AT&T doesn't reach here. 10:00am

Drove to Nashua w/Michelle over lunch and visited the newest Apple store to pick up OS X Snow Leopard (Family Pack). We're probably among the last Mac heads in the US to do this upgrade. The disc is also needed for the Christmas break's "hackintosh" work. 2:23pm

After dinner watched some of the new "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (related link) with the kids. Once again I showed how I am turning into my father by nodding in and out of sleep in the middle of the movie. 8:45pm

Parents, Students Plea To Spare Teachers In Bow - WMUR Manchester
Comment: At 5am WMUR led with this story. Is it a slow news day? I feel for anyone losing their jobs. I really do. Thousands are losing their jobs here in NH! But somehow because these are teachers, [let us bow in reverence] seven losing their jobs becomes a statewide opening headline?! There are factories here in Milford who've let go more than that this year and it's just a small news blip on page 11.
Excerpt: BOW, N.H. -- Passionate pleas from parents and students in Bow doesn't sway the school board from recommending a budget that could result in seven teacher cuts.

BBC News - Why did Copenhagen fail to deliver a climate deal?
Comment: Once again, see if you can find one aspect of Copenhagen that the BBC somehow neglected to mention in reviewing the failure for arriving at a deal. Considering how the Climate Research Unit of the "climategate" email scandal is *in* the UK, it merited not a passing mention??
Excerpt: About 45,000 travelled to the UN climate summit in Copenhagen - the vast majority convinced of the need for a new global agreement on climate change.
