Short Updates

Posted by Scott at 11:44 PM

At the Nashua Chunky's cinema pub. We placed our order and are going to see WALL E. Daniel's being grumpy again. sigh 12:12am

Michelle and I are shocked to learn that Tony Snow has died this morning. 12:25am

About to go into the Nashua urgent care clinic so someone can see Abby and look at her neck. 2:44pm

Back home from clinic. Abby has Torticollis (wry neck) which should clear up in a few days with heat, ibuprofen, gentle stretching and rest. 4:27pm

Putting on my grungy attire to do some lawn work. I don't want to wait until the grass is as tall as last weekend. 4:29pm

The lawn is done. It's so much nicer mowing in the early evening. I'm all showered up. Time to relax a bit and have some dinner. 7:42pm

Watched a new episode of my favorite Disney series, 'Phineas and Ferb'. (related link) Heavy eyes now. Good night! 9:11pm

Hey Scott-
Who is Tony Snow?
Glad Abby is going to be ok.
My 3 younger boys just got Phineas & Ferb t-shirts from the Disney store for $2.99 each- their favorite new shirts!
Just too much going on for Cass to go out by you. Does Claire want to come here? She is always welcome! Abby too.

Here's a Wikipedia entry on Tony Snow:

For Michelle and I, it was as big a deal as when Tim Russert died a month ago.

OK- I don't know who Tim Russert is either.

Last month Tim Russert, the host of NBC's Meet the Press, died and all the major news media went into homage mode about what a great newscaster he was.

Both died a bit on the young side.

If ever I write something that you don't catch the reference for, usually its easily found on Google or Wikipedia. I was thinking I should make the search box in the corner of my site have buttons for easy Google or Wikipedia searching from a highlighted word or phrase on the website.

I guess I don't watch major news media, sorry. Probably if some major sci-fi person or athlete or Disney star died, I'd know about it. My news really only consists of the Daily Show, especially in summer when I don't even watch the weather!
I can't believe you fainted! Was anyone there to see it or help you? I haven't done that in years, but it is freaky!

Hi Alyssa,

Nope. I was alone. I wish I had one of our sons with me to call for help. Judging by what Michelle said, I must not have been out long.

We'd arrived at the pool. Whenever we go, I just wear summer clothes since I'm carrying my wallet, keys, etc. and a gym bag with a change of clothes for the pool (swim trunks, towel, etc). Once we got pool side, Michelle and I lathered up the kids with sunblock and sent them into the water. At that point I grabbed my bag and went back into the locker room. I was changing there alone. I took off my shoes, my shorts and underwear, pulled my swim trunks up, and then... I woke up wondering what the heck I was doing resting on the cement floor of the changing room in a semi-fetal position. My face near my left eye and both of my knees are a bit scraped up. I'm sure I didn't fall too gracefully.

From that point I told Michelle and the girls what had happened. Michelle asked that I stay with our younger kids in the shallow end and avoid the deep water that afternoon. The girls insisted that she drive home when we were done swimming.

I'm guessing it was triggered by the sudden change in blood pressure when you're bent over with your swim trunks around your ankles and suddenly stand up to pull them around your waist, combined with the change in temperature and lighting in the locker room. I'd had enough to eat and didn't do anything strenuous (like a 14 mile walk for charity, *ahem*).

In other news Abby's neck is feeling better this morning. She doesn't have full range of motion but has significantly more than she had on Friday.

Michelle watches local news (TiVo'd to bypass the fires, murders, robberies, etc.) every morning around 5:30am before the kids get up. She mainly watches for the weather so she can plan her day. She often watches something of more national flavor in the evening after the kids go to bed.

I'd rarely watched Tim Russert, but saw all the media go crazy when he died without warning. I'd known Tony Snow for years. He sub-hosted Rush Limbaugh's show a few times many years ago. He was a pretty big name at FoxNews for years. Then he became President Bush's press secretary, so you'd see him quite often on national news explaining official White House positions. He left that position when he had a struggle with cancer, but he had recovered from it. He'd started to resume his usual kind of work and we thought he'd be around for decades more. I guess we were wrong.
