iPhone Reality Distortion

iPhone - I was listening to BuzzOutLoud on CNET today when I heard a listener write in with the following comments:

Look, I don't get it. I'm sorry, I've tried--I mean, I really have--but I just don't get it. I mean, if I told you there is a new phone coming out and it had a 2G connection and Wi-Fi with a Web browser, no Java applications, no themes, no native applications, no flash support, no keypad, no replaceable battery, no external memory support, no VPN support, no e-mail support, no GPS, a standard 2-megapixel camera, no infrared, and no BT keyboard support. You'd think it would be some sort of budget phone. Then I tell you it's white and it's going to cost a fortune, and people go nuts. Man, I really don't get it. I feel like the only sober person at the party.

Finally someone else who is not drinking the Kool Aid! There's no doubt the iPhone can do interesting graphical effects (most of which are really 2D effects) and the touch screen is nice, but this first generation iPhone seems pretty modest on a number of practical fronts. At least when Nintendo came out with the simpler DS model handheld game console around the same time as the Sony Playstation Portable, the Nintendo was significantly cheaper!
