Belated Mothers Day

Posted by Scott at 09:28 PM

Holiday - I know I got to speak to my mom but didn't get to wish the other moms I know a Happy Mothers Day. Mea culpa! Happy Mothers Day!

Spring - The past several days have been very nice. The temps have moderate with mostly sunny skies and gentle breezes to keep the bugs at bay. Combined with some good audio on CD and the commutes become almost relaxing and a good opportunity to decompress after work.

RubyWork - Speaking of work, today we celebrated the official release of the AMD/ATI HD 2000 series graphics cards. These cards are based on what we internally call the R600 series graphics processors, which have been in development for a couple of years now. You can read some stories at Google News about 'em. We had cake and got to see some demos. This was my second time seeing the new Ruby demo, which you can see (sort of) at YouTube (with a big loss in fidelity, but hey, it's YouTube). Personally I was most impressed by some the of the medical demos highlighting what you can do with real-time volumetric imaging with raw CT scan data.

We also had a former co-worker come back today. Many weeks ago he left for that other PC processor manufacturer but decided to return to his roots at ATI/AMD. I was happy to see him again. He was a pleasant person and his engineering background well rounded. He had been well recognized within Microsoft for his contributions on the Xbox 360 graphics development.

Vacations - We are also looking into when our girls have off for next February in 2008 in case Suzanne moves up her wedding to around that time. At this point all I know is that the winter break in 2007 was the last week of February. I would guess 2008 would be similar, but have to see if the school schedules are all laid out.

Movies - In honor of the farm of AMD64 compute servers that were used in rendering the movie, AMD will be offering their employees a chance to see Shrek the Third on Saturday morning. I plan on taking Claire and one of her good friends. I would take Abby, but by her own admission she doesn't have the patience for the drive. The showing for the AMD Boston area offices will be over in Worcester, Massachusetts. We can barely convince The Abinator to go to a movie in Nashua, but Worcester?! Fuhgetaboutit!
