It's always something!

Events - It seems we haven't had a non-eventful week in over a month. Weeks ago we worried about a lice outbreak. 2 rounds of treatment later, nothing was found. A week after that Michelle and I spent the weekend alternating time at the hospital watching Timothy recover from pneumonia. The weekend after that I got the news that my grandfather died and I flew to Chicago for the wake and funeral.

Lice - This weekend I went to a Saturday fitness class since I wasn't able to attend one during the week. When I got back to the house, I saw Michelle washing the hair of one of the kids. "Please tell me this is a routine shampoo!" Nope, one of the kids had lice. It was time to go through the treatment and sanitation routines all over again. Michelle and I will be nit-pickers for the next few weeks while we make sure there are no recurrences.

Funeral - I enjoyed my brief trip to Chicago. It's odd and a bit sad that I saw more relatives in three days than I would otherwise see in three weeks during the summer. Ahh... weddings and funerals.

MLK - The kids have tomorrow off for MLK day. I would take the day off from work but since I missed three days last week, I need to work and catch up. Considering how nasty the weather is planned to be tomorrow, I may have to work from home. There are predictions of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Not the kind of weather to drive ~100 miles in, if you can avoid it.

Music - Abby has a neat class project that's a bit like a 'show and tell'. They get to play a bit of a favorite song and tell the class about it. So I extracted the version of Somebody to Love performed by Anne Hathaway in the movie Ella Enchanted and burned a CD with it for her to bring into class. You can listen to the MP3 version of it if you've forgotten what it sounds like or want to compare it to the original version by Queen. In this song Ella, the lead character, is in a pub filled with fairy tale giants when she's told to sing and perform. Ella, under a spell of complete obedience, dutifully and unwillingly does so. The audio is only half as entertaining as the video...

Scott, Sorry for your loss. You're right about funerals... and weddings for bringing people together. Christenings can work too, though! And I'm on the clock today as well -- hoping the weather won't be as bad as they say.

Hi Ernesto,

Yep, Christenings can work if family is within a reasonable distance. The girls' Christenings were in Chicago and well attended. For our boys we had the Christenings out here in NH and it brought a few people this way. It's understandable that few would want to make the expense. But for the funeral, I flew out there and so did some other Chicago area ummm... ex-patriots. I must have seen nearly two hundred friends and relatives. I'm lucky if I see fifty when I visit for a summer vacation.
