TR on Immigration

Posted by Scott at 05:43 AM

Theodore RooseveltImmigration - This came in from my dad last night. It's former President Theodore Roosevelt speaking on immigration back in 1907. I verified it at Snopes.com. There are more background and related quotes from him on that same page.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Just another mean spirited Republican! *smirk* Dad also sent me this one.

Abigail - As predicted, I took Claire and Timothy with me last night to watch 3 of Abby's second grade classes do a little musical performance last night. Afterwards I dropped Timothy off at the house and took the girls out for ice cream at Santos Dumont. (Abby chose it over Blakes Ice Cream)

Mom - Yesterday marked a very important milestone. My mom had her very last radiation treatment. No more chemotherapy, the surgery is done, and now the radiation therapy is over. It's been a long journey! And best of all, she visits next week with Suzanne!

Weather - It's a good thing the visit not this weekend. It looks to be rainy all weekend. Everything should be lush and green for their visit. I haven't had any allergy symptoms this season but have had co-workers who said that this is a bad year. They are loving this recent gentle rain we've been having as it's pulling the pollen out of the air and making things bearable. The chilly mid-40's mornings have been tempting Michelle to start a fire but she doesn't want to mess up the clean stoves. I can tell that she misses the aura of a fire. The Seattle-like weather has been making her a bit loopy because it's keeping the boys indoors more and they burn off their energy in other ways…

With the last of her treatments, I hope your mom will have full recovery and remission.

Thanks Will. She's had a few side effects. Hopefully they all pass soon... But so far, things have been looking very promising. Let's pray that they stay that way!
