Chilly start

Posted by Scott at 01:49 PM

Heat - I rarely enjoy getting out of bed early in the morning. With this new job, I already get up on the early side but a couple of days per week I get up extra early to workout since I can't visit the YMCA as frequently. This morning was to be one of those mornings. When I first woke up, I snuggled close to Michelle not just for the usual loving reasons but because I was feeling chilly as well. When I finally set my mind to it and got out of bed, I found that indeed, it was cold in the house. While I was getting into workout attire I asked Michelle if perhaps she forgot to turn the furnace back on. Suddenly she remembered…

Yesterday was very nice outside so she opened the windows to let some of that nice spring air circulate. She shut down the furnace so it wouldn't waste propane trying to counter it. In the late afternoon she shut the doors and windows and restarted the wood stoves. When we went to bed we shut down the stoves, as usual. At this point the furnace usually just takes over automatically some time later and keeps things warm at night.

Nothing heated the house last night, even as temperatures came down to the freezing point. I meant to check what the thermostat indicated for indoor temperature but in my haste forgot. I ran downstairs and cranked up the first floor stove with a moderately high fuel rate (3-4 pounds/hour) and fan speed.

I returned up to the bedroom and did my workout. Usually I have to turn on a fan in our bedroom to keep me cool during my workout, but not this morning! By the time I came downstairs after showering and getting dressed, the first floor was nice and toasty once again. Ahhh!

Visitors - We got some great news on the visitor front these past couple of days. Sunday night Michelle's older sister called and discussed visiting in mid-summer with her two children. Then yesterday we got another call indicating my mom and youngest sister would visit next month due to a one-day Southwest Airlines fire sale. Who-hoo! Few things make our girls excited with anticipation like counting down to a visit from relatives!

Hey Scott- I am so excited about coming down! I wanted to ask about Abby's b-day. Should I send her something? Or is there something I can DO with her in NH since I will be visiting?? Just wanted your opinion...

Hi Suzy,
We're looking forward to seeing you. I wanted to briefly reply so that you wouldn't think we didn't see your message.

When I read your comment to Michelle, she laughed. "Abby, Go somewhere and Do something? Our homebody Abby?"

In that respect Abby and Claire are worlds apart. Claire goes stir crazy if she does not go somewhere and "do" something every day. I can tell because suddenly she'll want to (for instance) come with me to pick up take out dinner, or fuel my car. Abby, on the other hand, has been known to protest going to Haywards for ice cream. She's NOT Grandpa Bob's granddaughter in _that_ respect.

Let it stew with Michelle for a day or so and I'll get back to you. If there were a new "Zoombinis" game or "I Spy" game, she'd love that, but I think we're caught up there. She's also into kids crafts.

Thanks, Scott! If there is any computer game she/your kids want, let me know and I'd love to get it for her or them! Otherwise, I'll keep my eye out for crafts and if you think of anything else, let me know. I can't wait to see you all!
