First snow day

Posted by Scott at 07:01 AM

Weather - My condolences to the Tarpey kids back in River Grove who did have to go to school yesterday. The snow that hit you guys overnight came during the day for us. Milford schools had the day off. It wasn't so much that we got about 10 inches of snow (see news coverage here, here, and here). That's not unusual for us in southern NH. It was the timing. The snow started around sunrise and was done between two to three o' clock in the afternoon. The kids could have got to school but the school was worried whether they'd get home. While Milford is slightly bigger than River Grove (about 13500 people vs 10700 people), the area is about 10x bigger (25 sq. mi. vs 2.5 sq. mi.) with more hills and curvy roads. There are some roads that after a fresh snow, I wouldn't want to negotiate in a car, let alone a school bus.

Home - So the girls were home all day and had three of their girlfriends over as well. I'd brought my work computer home so that I could work from home as well. I used Timothy's old bedroom so that I could have a quiet room with a door. It had a little old desk with a small lamp. Still, it just felt weird to work at home on the stuff I usually do at the office. I try not to think about that stuff at home. Still, I had a bonus in that Michelle brought me a nice lunch in the middle of it all. I took a break (if you could call it that) around mid-afternoon to go outside, fire up the snow thrower, and clear the driveway, sidewalk, and make a path around the house. Afterwards Claire took the twins out sledding and later Abby and her friends went out front to play in the snow.

In the evening Abby had a sleepover here with her friend Jessica. After working more on the Christmas card stamps and labels, Michelle and I watched the first half of Fantastic Four. It seems pretty mediocre to me. Did anyone go to see The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe yet? I so want to see it. I wish it were showing at an IMAX, but alas, the IMAX theaters are showing Harry Potter.

Timothy - This past week I showed Timothy how to play with the various instruments (aka voices) on our Yamaha. He was so curious about the buttons I wanted to steer him towards something safe he could do. Every voice has a demo you can listen to. For the dozen or so voices that Yamaha is particularly proud of, there is an extended demo. For the other few hundred there are short 5-10 second samples. While Timothy enjoys trying them out, there are a few he really seems to enjoy a lot — so much so that at times it drives Michelle nuts. I took a cute video of Timothy playing his favorite (it'll be online later today). He rocks side to side, waving his hands, wiggling his lil' pudge butt. It's cute.
