False economy

Fertility via conservation - I saw this story while skimming the news:

'Honey, Feel Like Saving a Little Water?'

MANILA (Reuters) - Couples in the Philippine capital have been asked to start sharing the tub at bath time as part of a conservation drive.

"Start sharing baths with your partner to conserve water," the environment department advised the parched capital's 12 million residents.

It reminded me of a Chinese proverb someone gave me a couple of years ago saying "It is not economical to go to bed early to save the candles if the result is twins". Expect a surge in the birth rate in Manila in about nine months. *grin*

Bitter Cold Again? - While the next two days should be reasonable, after that we get another cold blast akin to what we had last week.

Wednesday
Partly cloudy...brisk and much colder. Highs only around zero. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Wind chill values around minus 35.
Thursday
Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow. Highs around 4.

"The coldest in 20 years", they're saying. Hey! What is this? Chicago!? In all seriousness, while southern NH commonly has "boatloads" of snow, the temperatures are usually mild. I can often clear my driveway of snow after a storm with just sweats, gloves, and a hat. But lately the furnace seems like it's on about 2/3's of the time. Energy North Propane has to be loving this! I'm glad I'm on level billing to help spread out the financial pain a bit.

I suppose Michelle and I will find some way to stay warm, perhaps sharing a bath... *smirk*

Merrimack wusses - I just heard a shriek of frustration from Michelle. As she often does, she woke up Timothy on the early side (5am) because she teaches step aerobics on Monday mornings. She looked outside and saw that we had just a thin "dusting" of snow -- nothing significant. "No problem", she thought. Then an hour later she sees on the news that the Merrimack school system is on a 90 minute starting delay. Again! For the second Monday in a row! And again the Milford schools are operating on time! When Merrimack schools are delayed or cancelled, Michelle doesn't get to teach because it affects the Merrimack YMCA. On the bright side, she can take the kids to the Milford Tot Drop In.

hey Scott! Just thought I'd say "hi"! I'm back down at school and had my first class today. It was alright. It is a course on Family Counseling-yikes! Just trying to get back into all this. Glad to hear all is well with you!
