TiVo is still a no go; Website changes

Posted by Scott at 02:35 PM

Things didn't go to well last night with the replacement TiVo. I made a brief call to their tech support line after lunch today to get some ideas of what I can do now. It was pretty interesting how the technicians on the other side of the phone line can pull up their databases showing last night's phone calls into TiVo HQ by the TiVo hardware boxes and see how far things progressed with my particular box. They gave me one last thing to try tonight and after that I have to send back their replacement unit so we can try another unit.

Usability tip: I tweaked the small attribution lines below the title/subject lines on this weblog. If you click on the author's name, it should open your computer's preferred email client (assuming you're not using a web based email tool like HotMail or Yahoo...) with the To: and Subject: line pre-filled in. Use that link if you want to respond to something Suzy or I wrote via email and don't want it to be a publicly viewable comment posting. I also added little hover popup messages on each of those links as a reminder to what each of them do.

I also am in the process of collapsing some of the lists on the right sidebar into popup menu lists. So far you can see the results with the "Weblog Archives" section but I plan on doing that to the "Recent Entries" and "Photo Albums" as well. I plan on putting more "useful" content there -- like brief weather forecasts for Nashua, Indianapolis, Chicago, and Los Angeles and snippets from my other weblogs.

Update: (8PM) I tried what the TiVo technician suggested. The box is still very flakey. They are sending yet another replacement box tomorrow. Hopefully the third time is a charm.
