Energizer Bunny Nor'easter

Posted by Scott at 06:27 PM

We all left work a couple of hours early yesterday because the snow storm was well under way and they didn't want us to get stuck. By 5 o' clock there was only about an inch or two of snow on the ground. When I woke up this morning, we were blanketed in snow. The houses all have thick white cushions on their roofs. Between 10 o' clock and noon I used the snowblower to clear the driveway which had about a foot of snow on it. Of course the mouth of the driveway and the curb area was much deeper. In New Hampshire you usually have to clear out along a portion of the curb so that the mailman can get to your mailbox. The plows typically build up the snow to about three feet deep. Once I finished up around noon, the storm seemed to be getting it's second wind. Nevertheless I went inside, showered off, and took a nap with the boys. Another couple of inches have fallen since noon and it's still going strong. We may miss Mass tomorrow morning because I'll probably have to do another round of clearing tomorrow morning.

We've seen a couple of good movies this past week. Michelle bought Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on DVD. I also rented a 1938 classic in screwball comedy, Bringing Up Baby. With all the winter weather, I'm glad we have a TiVo caching a bunch of the kids favorite shows. You know when you have a silly song running through your head and you wish you could stop. It's been that way with me with a bunch of silly songs from Blues Clues ("Here's the mail, it never fails, ...") and Dora the Explorer ("Come on, vaminos...").

Two years ago today noted weblogging guru Dave Winer predicted the emergence of desktop websites. Here it is 2003 and BilikFamily.com is hosted directly from the iMac in our study. It's the same little computer that Abby is often on running Winnie the Pooh, Reader Rabbit, etc. It's interesting to note the shift of websites from being hosted in large computer server rooms to little home desktops. I admit that I got a lot of advice from the article "Apache Web-Serving with Mac OS X".

Dad mentioned that Bev and others have wondered what happened to the Sights and Sounds link? The photo albums are in a bit of transition as I move them off of the MV servers. The old page is still here if you like but it will move and be reorganized over the next month. I got pretty far last week until I noticed the file corruption in some of the pictures. It's also got in the way of my work on new albums.

The boys have developed a rather funny habit these past few months. After we have dinner, they usually start to stand in their chairs when they've had enough. Michelle pulls their chairs back and tells them, "Go play, go jog...". They climb out of their chairs and start doing laps chasing each other around the main loop of the first floor. It keeps them busy for 5 to 10 minutes while the rest of us finish up and clear the table. Tonight Michelle put on their new sneakers from Christmas. These sneakers have the flashing LEDs in them. The boys thought that the new shoes were really cool and loved stomping their feet and chasing each other.
