Snow in May?!

Posted by Scott at 02:35 PM

You heard it right. Southern NH had snow on May 18th! It formed in the upper atmosphere but melted when it hit the ground. Still it was quite annoying to see it so late in the spring. It's been many years since there was snow in mid-May.

Michelle took the girls swimming Saturday afternoon while I took a nap. When they got back Michelle rested for a spell. The ugly weather just did not inspire activity. Afterwards we took the family to the Pheasant Lane Mall. We wanted to look over washers, dryers, TVs, and riding lawn mowers. With the exception of the TV, everything else will need to be purchased for the new home. I spoke with the seller this weekend and agreed to a price for him to leave the existing refrigerator.

The good news is that the owner said that his neighbor has cable internet access from Adelphia and is happy with it. The convenience and speed of always on and ready broadband internet access is something that would be hard to wean from. I'm impressed that my dad had no issue with the transition.

Sunday was such a difficult day. Unlike Saturday it was sunny and mild but a bit breezy. Michelle woke up very sick to her stomach. I won't get into the graphic details... Once the boys went for their morning nap, I took the girls to Dunkin Donuts for a bite to eat. We bought Michelle some medicine to help settle her stomach. Sunday was our annual Parish Day at Alpine Grove and I had tried to prepare the girls for the likelihood that we would stay home to help take care of Michelle. At the very end Michelle sent us to go for a while since the boys would spend much of the afternoon napping and the girls really had their hearts set on it.

The girls had a nice time there. It started with a Mass for the feast of Pentecost. Afterwards there was a typical barbecue with chicken and ribs. Claire and Abby hooked up with another parishioner who had two older daughters. They went mini-golfing and took a ride on a horse drawn wagon. We left early so as to get back to Michelle and make sure the boys weren't overwhelming her.

Later that afternoon I cut the lawn and prepared some things for when our house starts showing later this week. After the boys went to bed for the night, I took the girls out to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner to get them out of Michelle's hair and let her get more rest. Not having held much food down was understandably making her fatigued. Being that the girls so rarely get to eat out anywhere except fast food restaurants they were extremely well behaved. The server spilled our meal as she was about to deliver it so we had an extra long wait while they prepared another order. The girls were having such a nice time that we hardly noticed or cared. Michelle asked that I bring her back a potato so that she could get started again on some plain foods.

By this morning Michelle was feeling back to normal. She even taught her usual Monday morning step aerobics class. I reviewed some work our realtor is doing to market our house, virtual tours and such. When I went outside for lunch I saw what a beautiful afternoon it's shaping up to being. Where was this weather last Saturday?! I would have taken the family to the annual Nashua area Greek food festival if it had been like this!

I don't know if I mentioned but we did buy the airplane tickets that we need for this summer's trips to Chicago and Flagstaff. It always hurts to write large checks but with the large sums of money that will flow in the next month, you get really sensitive to these things. We moved our rainy day mutual funds into the checking account which should make sure we don't bounce any checks over the next month.

I'm experimenting with a tool for updating a LiveJournal from within Emacs and it may take a couple of postings to get the kinks ironed out. New programs always have their learning curves...
