First Post from the iMac

Posted by Scott at 10:38 PM

Well, I got the iMac during lunch today. I installed it after the boys went to bed. Interestingly it didn't take too long this time to contact ATT Broadband and get them to recognize the new system. Last time I waited about half an hour before I got someone in support to get the information on my HP system. This time I got lucky and someone picked up the line in less than a minute.

I was a little bummed that the system didn't come with the latest software or even a form to get up to date. Luckily the system easily takes you to the Apple OS X website where you can get the form to have them send you the update CDs.

I haven't gotten around to trying to hook up the printer yet. We'll see how that goes later this weekend. I give it a 50/50 shot.

Tomorrow I'd like to do more to get things to the point where I can get pictures off of my camera and edit them. It's one thing at a time, I guess.

Claire seems to be adjusting to school now. Less crying, less stress, more acceptance. Since the past two weeks have not been complete school weeks, we haven't had a progress report in a while to know for certain what her teacher thinks of her progress. At least Claire doesn't seem very emotional about it.

Daniel is getting his upper teeth now. Michael got his a few weeks ago. Both of them are getting so big, so fast. Another half dozen months or so and they'll be walking! Scary.... We got some cute Halloween costumes for them sent from family back in Chicago. I look forward to getting some shots of the kids in their costumes next week.

I enjoyed this article from Peggy Noonan. It reminded me of a recent email from my friend, Stu. The article is entitled, "Welcome Back, Duke". Take a look if you get a moment.

So far I'm having fun. It's been about five years since I've owned a Mac so certain things just seem so deja vu. It would be one thing if it were just like it used to be, but MacOS X is a long way from Mac System 7 (the last time I used a Mac). My last system had a 16MHz processor, 10MB RAM, and an 80MB harddrive. This system has a 700MHz processor, 512MB RAM, and a 60000MB harddrive. The operating system alone is bigger than the harddrive on my last Mac. Ah well, it's getting late so I'll close before I miss out on my opportunity for rest.
