Labor Day Weekend

Posted by Scott at 06:12 AM

It's been such a long while since I've had time to write about family events that I hardly know where to begin. I guess I'll start with today and work backwards a bit. In other words, reverse chronological order.

I got a bit sad and yet excited today because Electronic Planet in Nashua seems to be closing its doors soon. They sold second hand computer equipment. If you're like me, you don't care if you're riding the leading edge of technology. The important thing is to buy the computer you need to do the job. As I've mentioned before, this web page is often editted by a computer otherwise considered obsolete. It's the one I'm writing on now. Anyway, the Planet was offering some laptop memory modules (32MB) for 25 cents per megabyte. My thoughts were that this low end laptop that I'm writing on now might do a bit better if I upgraded it from its current 32MB to 64MB. It would only cost around twenty dollars. Alas, the memory they were selling for laptops was what is commonly called SDRAM and my laptop takes EDO memory. Perhaps I'll make a bid on eBay soon... The sad part is that I brought my laptop in, the salesman watched me open my computer and test out their memory, saw it fail, and then looked on to mention the difference. If you could tell visually, why did you let me install it?

Claire did have her first two days of school this week. She seems to have enjoyed them. I'll find out more this three day weekend. I do have pictures but I figure I'll wait until I get some pictures of her in her uniform before I extract and post them.

Last weekend we spent Sunday afternoon at a park in Concord, Massachusetts. It was a beautiful day. We spread out a picnic blanket, had lunch, the girls climbed, swung on swings, and Claire practiced more with her hula-hoop. She's now quite good at it and quite proud to be the only one in our family that can do the hula-hoop.

Saturday afternoon we went to visit Vintage Vending. It was very cool and I'm sure any NH visitor would love to check out the stuff they have: wonderfully restored 50s paraphenalia! I have some pictures in the Sights and Sounds page.

I've spent much of the past week at work training some ARC engineers from overseas on the VAuto products. It'll continue next week. The following week an engineer from Israel will come out for some on site help. Shortly after that my parents should drive out for a visit. I imagine that then I'll finally take a few days off.

This weekend we'll have an afternoon barbeque with the Martinez family. I'm scheduled to lector on Sunday so the boys will probably be complete pills because both Sunday Masses encroach on their nap times. Other than that the weekend is supposed to be gorgeous from a weather perspective. It would be nice to have few of those before autumn creeps back in.

That's about all. Aside from the start of school, there's nothing too noteworthy. I'll try to write near the close of the holiday weekend.
